Creativity is the key to my sanity. It’s my safe place. A Paint-By-Numbers kit started this journey. From the beginning the practice of using paint to express myself was thrilling. Over the years my process has changed and has lead me to create figurative abstract art. This style fills me with a sense of accomplishment and has unconsciously been the outlet that transforms my inner thoughts and struggles into a visual reality.
My inspiration comes from my intense love for my community. I draw upon the strength and insight within the African American populace and use every day experiences as the common denominator throughout my work. The deliberate outlining of the images symbolize the constraints that we put on ourselves and others.
My goal is to inspire those who see my work to appreciate the beauty in all people, to not be defined by preconceived boundaries, and to acknowledge the magnificence in our everyday lives.
